Our Client is hiring an InnerSource Community Manager to build engaged development communities and encourage adoption of OpenSource development practices. The role's success will be demonstrated by the growth of InnerSource components and their reuse, improved speed of delivery and the breaking down of cultural and organizational barriers.
This role will interact directly with development teams and solution architects across MMC to help them understand the technical and community practices required to drive successful a successful InnerSource Community. The role will organize a development community of potentially several thousand and manage a team of part time collaborators from across MMC. The role will report into the Development COE DevOps Leader.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand modern development practices including the Dev COE's North Stars and best practices and keep InnerSource practices aligned. This will include promoting strategy in the areas of test automation, DevOps, tooling, and other software engineering practices.
  • Set contribution and reuse standards. We believe that some background as a software engineer will be critical to making sure the standards are lean and useful and understandable by development teams.
  • Be a lifelong learner with an appetite for improving your craft, introducing change, and collaborating with like-minded colleagues.
  • Develop the company's engagement with OpenSource projects.




The InnerSource Community Manager will be passionate and energetic supporter of InnerSource, have experience as a software engineer and driving InnerSource adoption.

Must haves:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • 3+ years InnerSource community experience.
  • Able to work with the teams to understand, develop and apply standards.
  • Able to identify projects or components that are good candidates for InnerSource.
  • Agile, collaborative mindset.
  • Comfortable with modern development practices including automated testing, DevOps and composable architecture.
  • Excellent communication, community engagement, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Hands-on experience with OpenSource projects.



Desirable Qualities

  • Past success organizing and running a thriving InnerSource community.
  • Strong development and architecture experience.
  • Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Strong automated testing experience.
