Our client, a global health care leader with a diversified portfolio of prescription medicines, vaccines and animal health products, are recruiting for a Shipping Specialist to join their team in Carlow.

This role is to complete co-ordination and processing of inbound, outbound shipments to and from the site including all aspects of international shipping and trade compliance. Ensure that objectives are effectively achieved, consistent with our client's requirements to ensure compliance, safety and reliable supply to their customers

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Completion of all out-bound shipments including freight, courier and small parcel shipments in and out of the site.
  • Co-ordination of all inbound shipments from both EU and non EU countries that require logistics assistance e.g. sourcing HTS codes for non EU shipments. Act as key point of
  • Contact for day to day import and export queries.
  • Completion of all customs related issues and queries. Assist in ensuring compliance with dangerous goods legislation for the site.
  • Ensure compliance and timely submission of Intrastat and VIES reporting. Play an advisory role in the development of qualified shipping methods for raw materials, samples and finished goods shipments.
  • Ensure compliance with CCM (Cold Chain Manager).
  • Act as key liaison with external freight and logistics vendors including the development and maintenance of SOP's and SLA's.
  • Act as SME on customs related issues relating to technical transfer.
  • Drive and participate in the effective writing/revising/ rolling out of accurate operational procedures, training documents, risk assessments and procedures for various logistic systems; ensure all work is subsequently carried out in line with same. Participate in projects using lean tools.
  • Drive best practice and continuous improvement in Logistics by active participation in system failure investigations and investigation reports, execution/development of change control, and contribution to Kaizen events as appropriate. Lead root cause analysis of system failures, substandard equipment performance, using standard tools and methods, to resolve system issues e.g. FMEA, Fishbone diagrams, 5 why's etc.; ensure effective implementation of subsequent corrective action through the change management system.
  • Work collaboratively to drive a safe and compliant culture in Carlow. Ensure the logistics department provides a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers. Ensure the safe and efficient operation of site material handling equipment.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned.


Typical Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree or higher preferred; ideally in a related Business or

Management discipline:

  • APICS/Procurement qualification desired
  • Six Sigma qualification preferred
